Samsung LU32J592

Size and Clarity

The Samsung LU32J592 is up there with the best computer monitors within the mid-range price bracket.

First and foremost, the model incorporates a native Ultra HD 3840 x 2160p resolution. The 4K resolution offers much more screen space and delivers much more detailed visuals.

The widescreen monitor will prove equally suitable for work and entertainment, letting you can view documents/webpages with far less scrolling, comfortably work with multiple windows and toolbars, as well as enjoy movies and video games in astonishing 4K quality. It's not just about the size and image clarity though.

The colours here are just as fantastic. Supporting a billion shades of colour, the model is able to reproduce the most vivid, vibrant, and life-like images. Its improved colour accuracy means that the visuals always appear more natural, making the computer monitor perfect for various photo, video, and graphics applications.

The model's versatility and overall well-balanced design is probably its biggest strength. At the same time, the monitor is definitely better for gaming purposes than just about anything else.

Sure, everything that we have mentioned before pertains to gaming applications as much as it does to every other task. That's not the case with the model's AMD FreeSync support and pre-installed Game Mode though.

Get Your Game On

AMD FreeSync works wonders synchronising your GPU and monitor's refresh rate to reduce stutter and image tear. You'll be able to play without the usual pixel distortion, motion jitter, and/or visual artifact issues. You won't have to deal with dropped frames and/or choppy visuals. The company's Low Input Lag tech does an excellent job minimising the delay between the peripherals' input and the on-screen response to deliver seamlessly smooth gaming experience.

Game Mode optimises the screen contrast at a moment's notice to give you a competitive edge over your online opponents. Selectively boosting contrast in certain scenes, Game Mode reveals additional detail in darker areas, making it possible to spot your enemies faster.

Again though, it is not all about gaming here. For example, the company's UHD upscaling tech is pretty remarkable. Incorporating signal analysis and detail enhancement, the upscaling feature is able to seamlessly upconvert SD, HD, and Full HD footage to near UHD-level picture quality.

All in all, we don't have any major issues with the Samsung LU32J592. This computer monitor is everything we like to see in mid-range screens and then some for good measure. It will be able to elevate your online and offline gaming experience. The monitor is perfect for work. It will let you enjoy movies in stunning 4K quality with spectacular colour reproduction.

Dell S2419H

Every Detail

With the Dell S2419H, it is just as much about the aesthetics as it is about the model's performance and functionality. "Striking looks", as the people behind the model have so eloquently put it, is really what separates the monitor from every other mid-range screen on the market right now. The practically borderless display will allow you to enjoy every detail of the on-screen beauty without any immersion-breaking borders.

Add to that the elegant glossy back cover and you have yourself a monitor that will be perfectly able to complement your desk with its sleek, modern, and chic design.

And it's not like the aforementioned "on-screen beauty" is a huge stretch either. With greater than 99% sRGB colour coverage, the monitor delivers vibrant, rich, and authentic tones and shades, with a deep colour scheme and precise image expression.

After all, this is an IPS panel we're talking about here. With these panels, the colour accuracy is always there and the contrast ratio never fails to deliver. The viewing angles are there as well, so the picture never starts to appear washed out when you change the angle.

Review of Dell S2419H 24-inch IPS Monitor (FullHD, 60Hz)

Powerful Speakers

People often don't care whether the monitor comes equipped with speakers or not and, when it does, they just as often sleep on them. We don't blame them though. Way more often than not, these speakers are passable at best. But this isn't the case here.

The dual 5W speakers, tuned by Waves MaxxAudio, are about as powerful and technologically impressive as they come. These speakers are able to produce lifelike, detail, and spacious audio, with quality transience and rumble. With them, you'll be able to enjoy your favourite music, films, and games in a whole new light and you won't have to buy a separate pair of speakers, making the monitor great value for your money.

Nobody likes a bunch of cords tangling around here and there. With this model, you won't have to worry about that. It will allow you to easily move between work and play without having to rearrange the cords, all thanks to the built-in dual HDMI connectivity ports.

No quality modern-day desktop monitor is complete without eye-care tech. Here, the tech is represented by ComfortView, a flicker-free feature that works wonders filtering out harmful blue light emissions. You'll be able to spend more time in front of the monitor without experiencing significant eye fatigue.

With all that in mind, what we have here is a solid, well-rounded, visually appealing computer monitor with good specs, respectable performance, and streamlined aesthetics. Plus, the model can just as well double as a TV set.

BenQ BL2480T

Ergonomically Sound

One thing we can say about BenQ is that they seldom fail to identify the needs of their customers and come up with a fitting solution.

Take the BenQ BL2480T, for instance. They market it as a business monitor and, of course, it isn't because the monitor can't be used for anything else. On the contrary, the model in question delivers in a variety of aspects and is a pretty good overall screen no matter how you slice it.

No, it is because there are certain demands that an office/business monitor has to meet and we'd say that the BenQ BL2480T does a pretty good job of that.

Office monitors have to be ergonomic above anything else, ergonomic enough to be comfortable and convenient for any user who spends 8 hours a day staring at it. With this screen, you shouldn't have any issues achieving that. You can adjust its pivot, height, tilt, stroke, and swivel, so you should be able to position the display where it fits you best.

Admittedly, you may have a hard time fixing the monitor to the stand, and we don't know if it is an issue with the monitor, stand, or both. But once you get that out of the way, it will be easy to make this screen fit your needs and preferences.

Another part that makes this model such an ergonomically sound option is the slick frameless design. The 6.63-mm wide edge-to-edge bezel allows you to have considerably more workspace at your disposal, so you won't have to rearrange everything on your desk in order to fit the monitor.

Review of BenQ BL2480T 24-inch IPS Monitor (FullHd, 83Hz)

Less Detriment to Your Eyes

Having said all of that, this is still a computer monitor, so ergonomics alone would not have gotten it very far. But, like we've said earlier, it isn't like the model has nothing else to offer. One aspect of this screen that makes it equally suitable for a variety of applications is the Eye Care technology.

Under this umbrella term hides Brightness Intelligence, Low Blue Light, and Flicker-Free, the familiar to many arrange of technologies that minimise the harmful blue light, reduce flickering, and customise the amount of green and red displayed on the screen. All of these technologies help reduce the strain on your eyes and allow you to spend more time in front of your screen without as big of a detriment to your health.

Panel-wise, there isn't that much to discuss here. What you get is a pretty standard IPS 1080p full HD display, with the usual IPS quality of colour reproduction, great viewing angles, solid maximum brightness, and decent contrast.

In short, the BenQ BL2480T is a great minimalistic display that offers both aesthetics and functionality. It isn't the most versatile computer monitor but it is definitely one of the best office/business screens in its price range. It will allow you to spend more time in front of a screen with less of a detriment to your eyes.

Dell SE2417HG

Reduced Transition Time Deviation

The Dell SE2417HG is an affordable gaming monitor first and foremost.

The product's biggest strength is its weakest point too. The TN+film panel is pretty much the reason the model's able to feature excellent specs at this budget price point.

At the same time, this matrix is flawed. The colour reproduction isn't necessarily impressive compared to its IPS and VA counterparts. The viewing angles are really limited compared to IPS panels. The contrast ratio is pretty bad.

On the other hand, the maximum available brightness is much higher compared to every other product on this list. The 2ms response time is pretty ridiculous for a below 100-quid computer monitor and is exactly what makes the model so great for budget gaming purposes. That reduced deviation in the transition time means that the moving images in games will appear much more smooth and overall impressive.

The full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution is the perfect fit for the model's 24-inch panel. You'll be able to enjoy crisp visuals and detailed imagery. The clarity will be there too, despite the not-so-vibrant colours.

The matte screen works wonders minimising reflections from indoor lighting, making sure that you're able to enjoy quality gaming time in pretty much any environment (lighting-wise, naturally).

Review of Dell SE2417HG Gaming LCD Monitor

Smooth and Elegant

The model's performance is pretty impressive (again, keeping the very much affordable price tag in mind) but the looks/build here are nothing to complain about too.

The black piano finish is sleek, smooth, and elegant. The glossy bezels are really thin, bringing additional immersion points to the table.

The bottom bezel houses easy-access buttons. Using these buttons, you'll be able to fine-tune the colours, brightness, and contrast on the screen.

The robust stand doesn't just keep the computer monitor stable but also adds to the overall appearance, making the model's overall profile sleek and modern. Plus, you can tilt the stand 5 degrees forward and 21 inches backward, so it is not as rigid as these budget stands usually are.

On the interfaces front, we can really appreciate the 2 HDMI ports. You'll be able to seamlessly switch between work and play. With 2 available HDMI ports, you can always keep your essentials plugged in and ready to go.

To piece it all together, the Dell SE2417HG is up there with the best budget gaming monitors. Its specs won't allow for the most engaging movie experience but they'll prove just right for immersing you in the gameplay and making sure you do not trail behind your online competition.

BenQ GW2270H

Unifying Simplicity and Aesthetics

The BenQ GW2270H is almost too affordable. An actual computer monitor which specs and overall performance are not terrible at all for less than 80 quid is a ridiculous deal. There's so much here that, frankly, shouldn't be here considering how cheap this model is.

Sure, the product isn't flawless. For instance, the settings menu is really convoluted. It takes time and practice to get used to that menu. The 21.5-inch panel is relatively small compared to the modern 24-inch standard. The model's native full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution works well with the panel's 24-inch setup but not necessarily as perfect as it suits 24-inch screens.

All that being said, these things are minor issues compared to everything that the monitor has to offer and the price tag under which the monitors offer these things.

Let's start with the form factor. We can definitely get behind the model's minimalist design. The relatively thin bezels and clutterless frame allow the monitor to delightfully complement just about any modern space. It is able to unify simplicity and aesthetics. The stand isn't necessarily as minimalist but the stable foundation that it offers is a favourable trade-off no matter how you slice it.

Review of BenQ GW2270H 21.5-Inch Flicker Free LED Monitor

Authentic Colours

Now, let's address these surprisingly impressive specs that we've been praising earlier. The best part is definitely the ultra-high 3000:1 native contrast. Three times higher than standard panels, the model's contrast works wonders adding stunning colour depth and definition to complex dark images with remarkable subtlety and clarity.

The vertical alignment (VA) panel is so much better than its TN competition that usually dominates this ultra-budget price bracket. It is able to deliver much more authentic colours and sharper details from left, right, above, and below with the panel's 178°/178° viewing angles that TN will never be able to match.

The 8-bit colour display, with its ability to render 16.7 million colour shades at the same time, will have no issues keeping the visuals vibrant and realistic, presenting silky transitions and outstanding image quality.

Last but not least, BenQ has always been at the eye-care forefront and the model in question is no exception to the company's leading philosophy. The usual Low Blue Light tech here does an excellent job filtering out harmful blue light, effectively diminishing eye fatigue and irritation. The company's always effective flicker-free tech is able to eliminate flickering at all brightness levels, further reducing eye fatigue.

Long story short, the BenQ GW2270H is almost too good for its price. The model is able to present fantastic visuals. It doesn't strain your eyes. All the necessary interfaces are there. The computer monitor will prove equally suitable for work and entertainment.

What Is a Computer Monitor?

A computer monitor is a hardware peripheral that displays images or videos produced by the computer's graphics card (also called GPU). Computer monitors differ by many parameters, so the choice of the right device may be quite tricky. To make it a tad easier for you, we have thoroughly scoured the consumer electronics market and picked five computer monitors that should be able to satisfy your needs and preferences. Some of these monitors will be great for gaming purposes. Some of the monitors are better suited for office applications. Certain monitors will prove a better choice for streaming multimedia content. And, of course, some models are more balanced than others, so you don't have to settle for some singular-purpose device if you don't want to. Everything from the monitor's specs to the size of the panel will help you determine their primary application and help you make the right choice.

It is typical of many monitors that their built-in speakers produce quite a mediocre sound and lack power. If it's the case, it won't hurt to purchase an additional set of speakers. And if your job or hobby involves a lot of typing, make sure to acquire an ergonomic keyboard.

What Features to Compare

Today, the majority of computer monitors have displays based on so-called liquid crystals, so they are really thin. Older LCD monitors have recently been replaced by the cutting-edge LED ones. There are several parameters you need to take into account when choosing a LED-backlit computer monitor.

Screen size

The first thing you should pick is the screen size which is measured in inches. No need to say, it's much more comfortable to watch films, play video games, render images, etc on a large display. However, large monitors require a more powerful graphics card and if your PC is rather outdated and get a brand-new 24-inch monitor - the whole system will not run well. Smaller PC displays are better in terms of price and they can be used with older hardware - in this case, you can choose an 18-inch or 19-inch computer monitor. For gamers and films fans, we recommend picking large 27-inch LED monitors.

Resolution

The next thing to pay attention to is the resolution of a monitor for PC - it is a total number of dots (or pixels) on the surface of the screen. The more of them an LED monitor has, the better image you will get. In all, you must choose the PC monitors that support the Full HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels) and higher. The advantage is obvious - you can open several windows and work with them without any inconveniences. For example, if your monitor for PC supports the resolution of 2560x1440p, you can open with 4 windows on your desktop. The most common types of resolution are 1366x768p, 1920x1080p, and 2560x1440p.

Image quality

Also, you should think of image quality a computer monitor provides. It depends on the panel type a screen has. There are 2 most widespread panel technologies: TN and IPS. A TN panel is the most affordable one and it is the best for using a computer at home or at work. However, if you are a professional user who needs to work with graphics, you had better choose a monitor that has an IPS or MVA panels. They provide a far better image quality than a TN technology - the image is bright and vivid. Also, the viewing angles of an IPS panel are far superior to a TN. For instance, a usual IPS has viewing angles of 178/178 degrees and the maximal brightness of 270 cd./sq. m.

Interfaces

Finally, consider all the interfaces every PC monitor offers; in other words, look at the ports and slots it has. There are several essential interfaces any decent computer monitor should have. A DVI slot is usually used to connect large monitors and it provides good and clear image quality. An HDMI serves to transfer a digital video and multi-channel audio signal. A VGA is the only analogue interface for PC monitors and the only disadvantage of this type of connection is a deterioration of picture quality if you connect a digital device. Also, a USB (video) connection is important - a PC monitor can display videos from an external drive through this connection. Summing up, DVI and HDMI are the most important connectivity options to be taken into account.
