What customers say about "Key Specs"
Synology DS416 4TB (4 x 1TB WD RED) 4 Bay Desktop NAS Unit
  • This is a feature packed and very simple NAS to use however as i found after setting up plex on it, it’s incapable of hardware transcoding even 1080p let alone anything higher.
  • I'm running 4tb per bay in raid 5 in default SHR. I do not recommend going along with this default in 90% of situations but it does suit my specific needs so long as I take regular snapshots.
  • Just an Excellent piece of kit. Does heaps. Binned all my VMs (Windows DC / FS the lot) just the NAS and my Macs using up power now. Happy days
  • I have had a couple of these for some time, so I had no issue getting another, they just work, with WD drives they run at low temperatures even when driven hard, they run quiet , transfer speeds are fast across the network or via a VPN
  • The hard drives are easy to install and though we had several power cuts (London flats are rotten), I didn't detect any apparent data loss.
QNAP TS-451+ 4TB NAS Solution
  • Been using this over a year now and it's simply brilliant at what it does. I went with the 2GB version, but bought a RAM upgrade as others have mentioned to make it 8GB and it's just a great device.
  • It is perfect in every way for backup, media serving, running my own personal cloud.
  • This is a great NAS drive. I am new to all this technology! so learning more and more everyday! So far, so good!
  • Good fully featured, reasonably powerful SOHO NAS unit.

What customers say about "Features"
Synology DS416 4TB (4 x 1TB WD RED) 4 Bay Desktop NAS Unit
  • Download & filemanagement very easy via iPhone apps
  • Great product. Like the esay to use software, definately recommended.
  • The software by Synology is intuitive (really, just roam around and explore its features) and the forum helpful to solve initial problems.
  • It's got tons of features including handy download managers and it's 4-bay which means I've still got space to grow and add new disks.
  • Won’t stream via plex unless encoding left off
QNAP TS-451+ 4TB NAS Solution
  • Setup was pretty good and worked straight away. But pretty fast, once up and running you are left to make a lot of decisions abut what apps to load, difficult quaetions about transcoding and so on.
  • Media streaming seems good, which was one of the reaosns I chose it, I like the web-baed interface, it is responsive and pleasant.
  • I have it running a VM, Plex, iTunes server and a bunch more stuff on top of it's network sharing duties and it doesn't break a sweat. It has a web interface which is one of the best I've used.
  • Set up was a very straightforward affair, just be patient as formatting and scanning had take time. Once loaded on installed it can be augmented very easily with the excellent apps. Highly recommend this product.
  • Trays feel somewhat cheaper and more plasticky than those on my older 219 NAS, but not a major issue as they should remain in place for most of their life.

What customers say about "Interfaces"
Synology DS416 4TB (4 x 1TB WD RED) 4 Bay Desktop NAS Unit
  • Just plugged in and worked seamlessly.
  • Unwrapping the drives and clicking them into the drive carrier takes 30 seconds each
  • I've populated it with three 3 TB WD RED drives (it is now 32% full) and am seeing 100GB upload/download times to/from my iMac over a 1GB switch, and 40-50MB uploads to a USB 3 connected drive to my iMac through the same switch.
  • Speeds are ~110-130 MB/s on my network on a wired connection. I have it running a plex server as well with no issues.
  • To date, I've had no hiccups and non-TimeMachine connections are much quicker and a joy to use - Love it!
QNAP TS-451+ 4TB NAS Solution
  • Easy to setup and data transfer rates good.
  • A very well designed machine that is easy to install. Set up, software wise, is more difficult and I had to contact QNAP support for advice.
  • The interfaces are simple to use (however sometimes I get lost because of same functionality distributed in multiple places).
  • Also the gigabit connection through my router made copy over 90GB of data in a few hours. I had some misunderstandings at first, but the QNAP tech support was great in helping me out.
  • I have it connected via HDMI to my living room 4K TV and having the remote was a nice add on. Im impressed with all of the free apps that are available to expand functionality.
