Devolo Magic 2

The Fastest Pair out There

Being one of the fastest adapters available on the market today, the Devolo Magic 2 is a pair that won’t disappoint you, especially if you are searching for a high-quality network booster.

First things first, the kit comes equipped with not one but two units that include both a powerline adapter and a powerline extender, which together create a great range that you can use to connect all of your smart devices that lack a wireless module. Owing to its 500-metre range, the Devolo Magic 2 can link up multiple devices simultaneously without actually hampering the overall speed of your network.

As far as the speed is concerned, the Devolo Magic 2 can deliver up to 2400 Mpbs without breaking a sweat, however, the actual bandwidth will depend on your home network’s capabilities.

When it comes to the installation part, this adapter plugs directly into a wall socket just like any other LAN booster. This way, only one pair enables continuous and uninterrupted connection of the devices you want to link up with your router. This includes connecting multiple devices, which makes this product suitable for gaming, streaming, and other purposes.

All in all, the Devolo Magic 2 is simply the best powerline adapter for the price. Easy to adjust, set up, and to actually utilise, this is an excellent product, to say the least. On top of that, it provides the user with unprecedented reliability of the home network, whilst extending its base range multiple times.

TP-LINK TL-WPA4220T KIT

Reliable Speed and Excellent Coverage

This Wi-Fi-enabled model from TP-LINK offers a slightly more enhanced experience compared to LAN-only devices. To start off, the installation has never been so simple - with TP-LINK TL-WPA4220T, the actual process of connecting your Ethernet-powered devices is as easy as plugging the booster into a wall socket and connecting the cables. After that, the powerline Ethernet adapter will be ready for use and your multimedia devices will be connected to the Internet.

Moving on, let’s take a closer look at the actual specifications of this triple-pack. While the cable speeds are nothing to write home about, the standard 100 Mbps will cover most of your needs without too much of an issue. The Wi-Fi network, on the other hand, can manage quite a few devices simultaneously with up to 300 Mbps of bandwidth, which is rather impressive. Due to this, you can utilise this inexpensive powerline extender as a budget-friendly Wi-Fi booster, whilst still having a stable cable connection with your router.

Wrapping things up, the TL-WPA4220T triple kit from TP-LINK proved to be an excellent package and an affordable LAN booster that can also deal with extending your wireless network in the radius of up to 300 metres, which is not a small feat.

NETGEAR PL1000-100UKS

Versatile and Easy to Install

Combo models aside, if you seek true reliability, you simply cannot go wrong with LAN-based boosters and this product from NETGEAR is a solid contender for the role of a multi-purpose powerline adapter to use at home.

The adapter and the extender included in the kit provide the user with an enormous range of up to 500 metres whilst maintaining a top speed of up to 1000 Mbps. Provided you have a high-quality fibre connection, once you install the device, it will work without any issues.

As for some extra features, the package includes 2 high-quality Ethernet cables, so you won’t have to purchase any on your own. The installation is also quite straightforward: all you need is plug in the device into a wall socket, connect the cables to your router, and that should be it. Likewise, you won’t have to install any additional firmware since the booster pair works fine right out of the box.

The thing you should be aware of, though, is that this model tends to lose some of its speed during overvoltages within the electric grid. To prevent this from happening, we advise getting a voltage limiter that will protect both the Internet booster and other appliances connected to the electric grid.

All things considered, despite some minor issues, the PL1000-100UKS from NETGEAR is a good option for users looking for a basic Internet booster kit that has the basic features without any bells and whistles. Reasonably reliable and easy to set up, it is an excellent pick for connecting all your multimedia appliances that don’t have Wi-Fi modules on board.

BT Flex 600

Simple Design Coupled With a Quick Internet

BT 600 Flex kit is a powerline extender kit that features two units (adapter and extender) that are capable of connecting devices that don’t feature a Wi-Fi module to the high-speed internet. Operating at speeds of up to 600 Mbps, the appliance will be a good pick for computers, gadgets, as well as for the TVs for seamless streaming of the signal directly to your screen.

Similarly to other extenders used on powerlines, BT Flex 600 features multiple LED indicators that will conveniently show you the status of the Ethernet and power connections, as well as if any data is being transmitted through. Both extender and the adapter feature RJ45 ports for the Ethernet cables and will only require you to plug them into a power socket. What is more, the socket won’t be blocked, since extender and the adapter have pass-through sockets.

The only aspect of this powerline extender that could use some improvement, however, is the setup process, which can seem like a daunting task at first. That being said, if you follow the user manual instructions closely you won’t have too many issues, although the installation may take some time. On the positive note, though, the security of the connection is quite strong and the best thing about it - it doesn’t require additional setup or tweaking since it operates right out of the box.

Finally, if you are looking for a high-capacity LAN booster, then this package from BT will be a decent option for this role. Flex 600 will provide you with high-speed internet in the rooms otherwise inaccessible by your wireless router with little to no hassle.

TP-LINK TL-PA4010KIT

Reliability Is the Key

Although LAN-based powerline network boosters do provide enough coverage to connect most of your devices, they are rarely reliable enough to use for gaming or streaming purposes. Fortunately, this is not the case with the TL-PA4010KIT from TP-LINK. To kick things off, this adapter is firmly protected against power surges and drops in Internet speed, which, combined with the base bandwidth that can go all the way up to 600 Mbps, makes it a great choice for household use.

The only thing we didn’t really like about this booster pair is that it tends to get noticeably hot after a couple of hours of use. With that in mind, it is not recommended to place any objects close or adjacent to the power outlet into which the extenders are plugged in.

On the bright side, however, this doesn’t really affect the actual Internet speed, so you are highly unlikely to experience any lag spikes or drops in overall quality when watching your favourite show or a film on your TV. What makes the whole package great, though, is its plug-and-play installation process that only requires you to plug in the devices into a wall socket and connect the cables in order to start using them.

In the end, if network reliability is at stake, you won’t find a better piece than this adapter-extender combo from TP-LINK. Affordable and highly reliable, this pair proves that a good powerline adapter doesn’t necessarily need to be expensive.

What Is a Powerline Adapter?

Ever since Wi-Fi became a standard built-in feature for most household devices, having a way to keep your appliances connected is a constant issue. Thin walls keep the signal unstable, shoddy routers ruin any chance of enjoying Netflix in your bed if it’s too far away from the living room, and modest tech capacity leaves your wireless connection a suboptimal solution. Luckily, getting internet to your devices is not an insurmountable problem as you can simply use a powerline adapter.

These small gadgets are plugged into your electric outlet and connect to nearby devices via Ethernet cables or Wi-Fi, while a second unit is plugged near to the router or the originating part of the cable. That way you can take the Ethernet signal up to the second floor of your home without having to stretch cables all the way up there, leaving your floor a mess of cords. Of course, you could potentially get several adapter plugs and leave them all over the home, thus keeping all Ethernet-using devices connected (almost) directly, though that usually requires several purchases. Still, it’s quite a reliable way to keep Wi-Fi going and it works best paired with WiFi boosters or repeaters.
