The lens appears to be very well made from plastic with a metal mount.
F2.8 aperture – Good for exposure and background blur.
Focal length is long enough.

Very useful focal length for macro and candid/portrait shooting.
At its widest aperture the sharpness of this lens within its tiny depth of field is top-notch.
As well as an excellent macro lens with 1:1 magnification, on a 1.5x crop sensor you get an extremely useful candid focal length of 90mm.
To sum up, this lens is excellent if you need a macro lens with a longer focal length and you haven't got £500-600 to spend on the best ones.
The focal length at 90mm works well in both full-frame and APS-C formats.

The lens weight and size are very good with the camera feeling very balanced when the lens is mounted.
Great sharp pictures. Good weight.
It is weighted nicely, and feels sturdy.

Lens is very light and easy to carry around without bogging you down.
90mm is a really good size to have in your collection of lenses for sure.
It is heavy but with its size you do expect that and I feel it’s essential for what you’re getting.
Great product. I have used with and without tripod. Sturdy build and lightweight.
This is a heavy lens so it won't work out easy to take with you on any trip.

Manual focus is with the fantastically large focussing ring, this is very positive in movement.
The auto focus and image stabilisation were incredibly.
The image quality on distance shots was very good.
Auto focus works really well and also works well for portraits.
Well built lens and very sharp.

Focus limit switch, very handy for non macro work to speed up the AF a bit.
Very smooth manual focus (as expected for a macro). It's a "full frame lens" so no problems if you get a FF body later on or shoot some 35mm film.
I've heard a lot about the grinding noise of the auto focus, I've had no probs with that. It may be a little loud when focusing but, when you have the radio you'll struggle to hear it.
Focus is not fast (it's a macro) focus limiter helps a bit here, screw drive versions tend to be faster.
Perhaps a little slow on focus but that is a really minor niggle. But It is annoying when you need to focus quickly.

Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di SP AF/MF 1:1 Fixed Macro Lens

Superb optics even wide open, with a 9 blade aperture for smooth out of focus rendition. Stunningly sharp stopped down.
Good build (plastic but decent plastic) with a nice grip for focus and metal mount. This is just fine for the price.
The front element is well into the body of the lens which means you are not likely to use the hood much.
I love the macro features of this lens but primarily find myself using it for portraiture, especially pet portraits. It's fast enough to get great actions shots from a distance.
Due to the recessed lens elements you are closer to the subject for 1:1 macro than you might expect.
