The driver's cab is insanely detailed. It is completely accessible, with opening (and lockable) doors, a detailed dashboard, realistic steering wheel, adjustable seats, a bunk bed, and a sun visor. The bodywork is authentically designed. The detachable trailer comes with outriggers, crane arms, landing legs, even a container with lockable doors.

CONS

Takes some time and effort to put together the driver's cab.

OUR VERDICT

The latest Mack Anthem Toy Truck Replica is easily one of the best LEGO sets on the market today and definitely the most detailed and interactive kit on this list. We could recommend it to teenagers and adults alike. Plus, you can convert it into the Mack LR garbage truck.

The product comes with Wu, Kai, Jay, Cole, Lloyd, Zane, and Nya minifigures. They all have their signature weapons too. The anchor mechanism is poorly thought out.

PROS

The rugged RC car, with its huge tracks and two medium motors, will be able to face and tackle any obstacle. You can drive it forward, backward, left, and right, as well as make 360-degree turns. Originally a tracked racer, the model can convert to an off-road truck. The remote control and the receiver are functional and powerful (respectively).

CONS

The batteries aren't included in the package.

OUR VERDICT

LEGO 42065 is very different from every other entry here and that's not a bad thing. Sure, with this set, your kid won't be able to build lots of different frameworks and construct numerous buildings. But it is also a lot more interactive than most LEGOs, essentially doubling as an RC car toy and a LEGO set.

Based on the Friends cartoon, the set comes with 3 mini-dolls that provide plenty of character-based storytelling opportunities. There's a whole bunch of colourful elements, elements that make building really exciting. The pieces here are compatible with all LEGO construction sets, so you can combine them for creative building.

CONS

A kid may find it difficult to put certain parts together.

OUR VERDICT

LEGO 41317 Friends Sunshine Catamaran will allow you to introduce your kids to the LEGO world. With multiple LEGO models in one set, it promotes teamwork and group play. There's enough here to let their imagination run wild but not enough to make it too challenging for the developing mind.

LEGO 42078 Mack Anthem

Keep on Truckin'

Right off the bat, this Mack Anthem Toy Truck Replica isn't a children's toy. The recommended age range starts at 11 but even older teenagers can find it a little challenging at times.

For instance, the driver's cab is insanely detailed. It is completely accessible, with opening (and lockable) doors, a detailed dashboard, realistic steering wheel, adjustable seats, a bunk bed, and a sun visor. The bodywork is authentically designed and even the wing mirrors are adjustable. See, that's great, right? It is. But putting it all together will take even an experienced, seasoned adult some time and effort.

In fact, this awesome LEGO set consists of 2595 pieces. Now, it doesn't make it the largest LEGO kit since those flirt with double the numbers but it is definitely up there.

The attention to details here is exceptional. The detachable trailer comes with outriggers, crane arms, landing legs, even a container with lockable doors. The outriggers are extendable. You can lower the landing legs in order to secure the truck in position for those heavy loads. The crane arms can be used to lift the container onto the trailer for transportation. Heck, even the steering system is interactive, with a working front-axle steering and rear wheel drive that you can use to steer the truck into position.

Taking it all into account, this Mack Anthem Toy Truck Replica is easily one of the best LEGO sets on the market today and definitely the most detailed and interactive kit on this list. We could recommend it to teenagers and adults alike. Plus, you can convert the truck into the Mack LR garbage truck.

LEGO 75212 Kessel Run Millennium Falcon

It's not Wise to Upset a Wookiee

Is there a fictional carrier more renowned and legendary than Millenium Falcon? Don't answer, it was a rhetorical question, there isn't. Well, with this set, you'll be able to build your very own but meticulously authentic replica of the aforementioned starship.

As it is often the case with these expensive sets, the attention to details here is off the charts. Among the 1414 pieces, you'll find a 2-minifigure cockpit with a detachable canopy, two spring-loaded shooters, a sensor dish, ramp, rotating top and bottom laser turrets with 2 minifigure seats, opening hull plates, the list goes on.

This LEGO set will allow you to jump in the rotating laser turrets and fire the said spring-loaded shooters. Tired of fighting? There's an espresso machine in the cockpit, why don't you grab a cup there? After that, you can open the hull plates, access the cargo area, and kick back with our favourite vest-wearing character and his friends. You can even entertain a Dejarik session with Chewbacca. Just keep in mind that the guy is a sore loser and will likely flip the board if you don't let him win once in a while.

Again, the starship is as authentic and detailed as they come, supplied with a detachable escape craft, missile storage compartment, as well as a buildable hyperdrive with repair tools. Fix the damn thing and you'll be able to make the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs.

What else is there to add? LEGO 75212 Kessel Run Millennium Falcon is easily the best gift for a Star Wars fan that money can buy. The legendary fictional starship is as detailed as they come. In addition to the crew (Han, Chewie, and Lando), this LEGO set includes Qi’ra, Quay Tolsite, BB-BD, and a Kessel droid.

LEGO 70618 Ninjago

Ninjas Over Pirates any Day of the Week

Ninjas and pirates, these two equally realistic career opportunities have had kids divided, excited, and enchanted for decades now. Well, the people behind The Lego Ninjago Movie decided that it is time for children to put those differences aside. It is time to work together towards a common goal. Or it is just time for ninjas to board a ship and show the pirates they aren't so special after all.

Alright, with that out of the way, this LEGO set contains 2295 pieces. As you'd imagine, with so many pieces involved, this replica of Wu’s flying ninja training base is gigantic, intricate, and thoroughly accurate.

The ship features 3 modular levels (a top deck, Wu’s dojo, and a mid-deck/hull). There's a double-headed dragon figurehead since it won't be Destiny's Bounty without it.

You'll find 3 decorated sails, 2 wind-up-and-release anchors, a chain of lanterns, sky pirates skull handle, 2 barrels and 3 crates.

There's even Wu's bedroom with a bed for the titular minifigure and a bathroom in the hull. The aforementioned dojo comes not without a scroll and definitely not without a training dummy and three training weapons (not to mention the hidden weapons under the deck).

A ship is nothing without its crew, so welcome aboard, Wu, Kai, Jay, Cole, Lloyd, Zane, and Nya. Of course, ninjas can't do much without their weapons either, precisely why the company made sure to include Wu’s staff, Kai’s 2 katanas, Jay's spiked flail, Cole's hammer (not the most signature ninja weapon but the guy is creative, you have to give him that), Lloyd's tasseled sword, Zane's bow and arrow, and Nya's tasseled spear.

All in all, this LEGO 70618 Ninjago Destiny's Bounty Set, among other pieces, includes a laser-style pointer, 2 silver katanas, 2 golden shurikens, 4 golden sais, 2 golden katanas, an Aeroblade with golden blades, a crossbow, and a black stone warrior sword. Along with their signature weapons, the crew will be locked and loaded, ready to face any challenge.

LEGO 42065 RC Tracked Racer

Take the Wheel, Builder

LEGOs are all about the building process, right? Well, yes and no. Sure, putting the pieces together, either following the instructions or creating your own thing is fun and all. But LEGOs can be interactive too. More interactive than your average set.

With this one, your kid will be able to build a remote-controlled tracked racer car. There are only 370 pieces here, so it shouldn't prove too much of a hassle. That being said, it isn't too easy either, enough to challenge your average kid over the age of 9 but not enough to puzzle and defeat them.

See, the idea here is to let the builder take the wheel and tear up the track with this awesome, rugged RC car. With its huge tracks, there isn't an obstacle it won't be able to tackle. Being able to drive forward, backward, left, and right, as well as make 360-degree turns, this car gives the driver ultimate manoeuvrability. By the way, originally a tracked racer, the model can convert to an off-road truck so, again, there isn't a road too steep nor an obstacle too challenging for this car.

Frankly, the only issue we have with this LEGO set is that it comes without batteries, so you'll have to purchase those separately.

Other than that, LEGO 42065 is very different from every other entry here and that's not a bad thing. Sure, with this set, you or your kid won't be able to build lots of different frameworks and construct numerous buildings. But it is also a lot more interactive than most LEGOs, essentially doubling as an RC car toy and a LEGO set.

LEGO 41317 Friends

Friends Building Friends

LEGOs are often difficult, intricate, and ridiculously detailed. But they don't really have to be, do they? Sure, it is nice when they are, we all like a good challenge. It is, however, also nice when you can have some fun with the set without it feeling a hurdle that you're supposed to overcome.

See LEGO 41317 Friends, for example. It isn't necessarily simple but it is definitely not that challenging either. Most kids ages 5-6 and above will be able to enjoy this LEGO. Based on the titular cartoon, the set in question comes with 3 mini-dolls that provide plenty of character-based storytelling opportunities. There's also a whole bunch of colourful elements, elements that make building really exciting.

You can lift the top off the boat and access the kitchen, bedrooms, and lounge. In the storage area, there's a water scooter waiting for Stepanie, Olivia, or Liam. There's also a banana boat there, while on top, you'll be able to find lots of accessories that can seamlessly inspire imagination.

As per usual, the pieces here are compatible with all LEGO construction sets, so you can combine them for creative building.

To make it simple, LEGO 41317 Friends Sunshine Catamaran will allow you to introduce your kids to the LEGO world. With multiple LEGO models in one set, it promotes teamwork and group play. There's enough here to let their imagination run wild but not enough to make it too challenging for the developing mind.

What Is a LEGO Set?

Toys come and toys go. But LEGOs have been around for almost a century now and it doesn't seem like they're about to lose their popularity either. What's their secret? Well, excellent marketing tactics and strategies certainly do not hurt. But, at the end of the day, it is all about the toys. See, with regular toys, your kid will have some fun, sure. But, sooner rather than later, he will grow out of them. On the other hand, nobody grows out of LEGOs.

They're great for kids because these LEGO kits allow their creativity to run wild. Pushing the little blocks together is a surprisingly effective fine motor practice. LEGOs teach kids the core principles of construction, engineering, and architecture. The educational opportunities with these sets are endless. But, most importantly, kids love LEGOs. The company just gets it. They know how to appeal to kids of all ages.

But this isn't just about kids either. Don't think so? Next time you visit your parents' house, whip out that old LEGO set of yours and try to pretend like you're not having fun putting the pieces together and creating your very own little architecture landmark to play with.

All that being said, LEGOs aren't suitable for toddlers, the pieces are just too small and even the simplest sets will prove too complicated. So, before you go looking for the best LEGO sets, you might want to consider these marble runs and wooden block sets first.
