K&N KN-204-1

Improved Oil Flow with Reduced Pressure Drop

K&N KN-204-1 Oil Filter incorporates an upgraded synthetic filter media. Using this media, the unit ensures excellent oil flow with reduced pressure drop but also great filtration. With the 'spin-on' approach, the model delivers consistent performance.

But its most attractive attribute that separates the unit from its less attractive analogues is the 17-millimetre nut. Affixed onto the end, the nut enables effortless removal. Furthermore, the nut's cross-drilled so that racers can work with safety wires as well.

In general, the filer is compatible with most cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, and ATVs. This is not where the issue lies though. The issue lies with the housing. Whilst the heavy-duty can will have no problems surviving extreme conditions, the housing is pretty thin, so you might face some challenges with deformation long-term.

You will not, however, face challenges with the anti-drainback valve. Eliminating dry starts, the valve will be able to prevent oil from draining back into the crankcase during engine shutdown.

Bottom line, there are very few vehicles with petrol engines that will not benefit from K&N KN-204-1 Oil Filter. As long as these vehicles use M20 x 1.5 thread specifications, you'll be fine.

Bosch P7157

Removing and Holding More Dirt

Bosch P7157 will be able to accommodate select models from Audi, Skoda, Seat, and VW. This is not the most versatile unit and, truth be told, also not the most hassle-free unit since replacing it takes more time and effort than most. Nevertheless, the model's still leaps and bounds ahead an average prospect on the market today.

Making sure that harmful particles and dirt do not reach the oil, the filter prevents the engine from wearing out before its time. The model removes more dirt as well as holds more dirt than its less capable peers.

But the biggest responsible party here is the heavy-gauge case. Aside from covering the durability aspect, the case provides outstanding burst resistance that conventional oil filters cannot match.

Besides that, the package includes PTFE-treated sealing gasket gaskets. With these gaskets, you can seal the unit without worrying about leaks. Of course, not unlike cheap oil filters, this model also comes equipped with an anti-drainback valve, minimising dry starts and reducing oil drainage.

All things considered, most people with cars from the VAG group (Audi, Skoda, Seat, and VW) will not regret sticking with Bosch P7157. Top the filter every ~7000 kilometres and you'll ensure the engine lasts.

MANN HU 719/7 X

Excellent Filtration Performance

MANN-FILTER HU 719/7 X offers top-notch filtration performance. At the same time, the unit protects the engine, providing excellent and consistent oil cleaning. To some extent, what sells the company's filters is the long-life filter media, producing consistent results even when the conditions get pretty extreme. But the high-end silicone return line barrier membrane contributes almost as much, not just shielding the oil from the tiniest dirt particles but also ensuring consistent oil flow.

We're glad that the membrane is there since the provided sealing gaskets do not seem trustworthy. Sure, they do the job, but there's also something flimsy about them, so we would recommend occasionally checking that the oil's not leaking.

What you won't have to occasionally check though is the robust housing that protects the unit from rust and prevents corrosion. Last but not quite least, the model comes outfitted with Teflon-coated bypass valves, enabling easy removal with the practical release aid.

Audi, Chrysler, Dodge, Ford, Jeep, Mitsubishi, Audi, Seat, Skoda, VW, and more, MANN-FILTER HU 719/7 X will fit most European, Asian, and American cars, protecting the oil and, in turn, making the engine last.

Hiflofiltro HF204RC

TÜV-Approved

Hiflofiltro HF204RC meets and, more often than not, exceeds original filters' performance levels. There are not too many oil filters that receive the TÜV approval certificate and this is one of them. What has earned this model this approval mark? Well, multiple features, really, but we'll start with the 17-millimetre exposed nut. Owing to this nut, even inexperienced drivers can replace the filter with relative ease, usually within 20-30 minutes tops.

Naturally, we've seen these filters with an exposed nut before but we have not seen many with the tri-fibre filtration media that this unit is using. With this tri-fibre approach, the model is able to shield the oil from even the most microscopic particles, keeping it clean.

Barring the above-mentioned nut and the media, this unit plays the same song that most oil filters are playing, including the one that comes from the anti-drainback instrument. Dropping this whole 'musical' shtick, the anti-drainback valve works as intended, reducing dry starts and making sure that the oil flow remains consistent.

So, assuming you want your boat, motorcycle, or ATV to last, we would recommend sticking with the Hiflofiltro HF204RC route. Just check whether the model fits your bike beforehand.

Blue Print ADT32109

Pressure-Relief Valve

Microscopic wear particles, dust, and soot from combustion have to be filtered out, preventing them from embedding onto the bearings and decreasing the engine's lifespan. That's where Blue Print ADT32109 comes into play, prolonging the service life of the engine.

First and foremost, this unit comes armed with a pressure-relief valve. As always, this valve will be able to prevent contaminated oil from circulating back into the engine. But, what's more, the valve is also excellent at maintaining the oil supply to the engine, even with a clogged system or when the temperature dips below ~20-25 degrees Celcius. Setting aside this valve, the most important puzzle piece is the internally lubricated sealing gasket, facilitating hassle-free removal.

The anti-drainback valve on this filter is not necessarily different from the ones that you'll find on most oil filters, so we'll not discuss it. We will, however, discuss the heavy-duty metal housing. For one, the housing can handle ridiculous temperature fluctuations. Also, incorporating non-slip cutouts, the same housing lets you change the filter with bare hands.

So, as long as your car lands among the select models from Citroen, Peugeot, and Toyota that this oil filter fits, there's no reason to go with a different unit.

What Are Oil Filters?

Most drivers know that the oil they use (and the frequency with which they replace it) will not just determine the engine's performance but also its lifespan to a sizable extent. But oil filters are just as paramount as the oil you use. Removing contaminants from the oil that accumulate with time, these filters prevent the system from becoming saturated with sometimes microscopic but always hard particles that can damage the engine's bearings and decrease its service life. To add more, the best oil filters can even screen out these particles (including small metal bits, dust, sand, carbon, and more), preventing them from infiltrating the oil in the first place. However, make sure that the sealing gasket is tight. Otherwise, the filter might leak.

Shifting gears, pay attention to the filter's overall construction, including end caps, the casing, the filter medium, the valves, and the centre tube. When they're done right, the filter will be able to deliver improved oil flow, provide increased stability and integrity, and ensure enhanced protection from the most extreme pressure.

As important as these filters are, octane boosters, engine degreasers, and fuel injector cleaners are far from useless too, so we would not recommend neglecting them.
