A Powerful Electric Cycling Assistant

Weighing a few kilograms more than an average motorised wheel, this model easily compensates for its heaviness by offering impressive power. With its 660 RPM max rotation rate, the Theebikemotor can accelerate your bike to a whopping 60 km/h speed on a 26-inch wheel. This is one of the most powerful electric bike conversion kits as it delivers the 50Nm torque, which is rather impressive for an electric drive. For the most part, such high performance is achieved mostly with the help of the KT brand sine-wave controller, which provides a more stable operation and high efficiency combined with low current consumption. Owing to its advanced design, the sine-wave controller not only has a long life but also offers an advanced feature of the battery charging during braking, which is called a regenerative function. This complete electric bike conversion kit also supports a cruise control option that allows you to set the desired speed, while the electric drive will assist you in maintaining your route. The kit supply package includes a 6-speed gear as a default.

Theebikemotor engineers also made sure the brakes on your bike perform well with the 48V1500W kit model. The stainless steel disc brakes actuation system is implemented so that the electric motor is shut off when you pull the brake lever. As it was mentioned, the kit braking system is also designed to use the braking energy for charging the battery and increasing the distance covered on a single charge.

Control Your Bike Ride

With all its hi-tech engineering solutions, modern materials, high power, and elaborate design, the Theebikemotor 48V 1500W would have been incomplete without one important accessory. It is the bundled LCD screen that unlocks the kit's full potential and enables you to use its advanced features. The LCD display conveniently attaches to the handlebar of your bike and provides you with a full data array for cycling through various environments and in different road conditions. On the display, you can always see the current battery power level to plan your further route and reconsider your destination point, if need be. In addition to the battery charge, the display provides such metrics as time, speed, and mileage covered. Thus, you can estimate your cycling performance based on your current speed on a given portion of the route as well as measure your average speed using the mileage and time info. The statistics showed on the display are also useful for planning the route of your next bike trip based on the correlation between the battery charge left and the mileage covered, so that you could choose an alternate route and use the battery energy more sparingly.

Another useful feature of the LCD screen of this Theebikemotor kit is displaying the gear on which you currently cycle on. Switching between different gears and seeing your speed at the moment allows you to figure out whether you need to speed up or slow down to save your energy. This feature is also useful in terms of figuring out an easier estimation of the resulting speed and better understanding what gears you need to shift to for observing your speed limit on the route.

To sum it up, the Theebikemotor 48V1500W will be a perfect choice for those customers that won't shy away from spending a few extra pounds in order to virtually transform their bicycle into a highly functional motorcycle with an array of outstanding features.

Transform Your Bike

Bikes are blinding, there's no two ways about it. They're also slow though. Of course, any electric bike kit will help you solve the maximum speed issue. But few will let you transform your regular bicycle into a beast of a vehicle as brilliantly as Vogvigo 26".

As far as we can tell, this is easily one of the most complete options on the market today. The kit includes a 48V controller, 24/36/48V LCD screen, a pair of aluminum alloy brake levers, half-bar twist throttle with electric lock (24/36/48/60/72V universal), PAS 8-magnet high-quality pedal assist sensor, as well as a controller bag, battery connecting harness, and a 3-phase motor wire box. It isn't just about the quantity though. Aside from the controller cables that are a tad shoddy and mediocre, every other part here is ace.

For one, there's the 24V, 750W brushless gearless motor. Efficiency-wise, this is definitely one of the better motors we've seen in a while. It doesn't consume a whole lot of energy. Nevertheless, it is capable of accelerating your bike all the way to 50 kilometres per hour.

Of course, it isn't just the motor that's responsible for the conversion kit's efficiency. The overall drive system doesn't include any moving chains or gears. Since there's no friction, the motor becomes more efficient. Plus, it produces very little noise and has a longer lifespan compared to most similar options.

Ride Your Own Ride

The pedal assist sensor is often the unsung hero of these systems. At the end of the day, if you bought a bicycle in the first place, there's a good chance you like the pedalling part of the equation. And, just as the name suggests, the model's high-quality pedal assist sensor is there to assist and not to take on the bulk of the riding responsibility.

If all you want is just a little acceleration, you can always choose the first setting that gives you the lowest amount of assistance. But if you feel like testing the limits of this electric bike kit or you simply enjoy the speed, all you need to do is adjust the sensor to give you the highest amount of assistance and you'll be able to go over 45 kilometres per hour.

Of course, not unlike most conversion kits, the model includes not just a pedal assist but also a throttle. The pedal assist helps save battery power and allows you to get a bit of exercise. But the throttle can be very helpful too. You can use it to get through an intersection as quickly as possible. It is definitely the better of two options when you have to start on a hill from a standing position. Plus, you can always switch to it to give your legs a little rest.

All things considered, the Vogvigo 26" electric bike kit has a lot going for it. The conversion process is quick and easy. You should be able to put the whole thing together without any professional assistance. The motor is effective and highly efficient. The LCD control panel displays every necessary value and measurement.

A Reliable Option

It seems like there has been somewhat of a trend recently with a multitude of companies behind various products trying to one-up each other by adding an array of useless features that, while certainly look or sound cool, don't necessarily offer anything substantial. A Bluetooth connection option on an electric toothbrush, a heart rate monitor on a smartphone, you name it. This kind of approach has been so prevalent that people in the marketing sphere even came up with a name for it, generally referring to such phenomenon as a feature creep or featuritis.

Well, luckily for the customers, people at ReaseJoy don't want to go down the same rabbit hole and a single look at the ReaseJoy E-EBE-19-002-0001 should be enough to drive this point home. This electric bike kit doesn't offer customers anything that isn't necessary, so you don't have to worry about overpaying for a bunch of impractical and pointless features. When the package arrives at your doorstep, you won't have to sift through an entire bundle of junk either. The first thing you will likely notice is a 26" front wheel. Unlike a large percentage of other companies out there, ReaseJoy provides you with a whole wheel with a tire, not just the tire frame. Both the 40mm tire and the 32mm rim are reinforced, securing an additional layer of protection.

Fast and Affordable

After the wheel, a powerful 1000W 48V brushless hub motor is a component that is most likely to catch your eye. While it may not look the part, with a modest diameter of 245mm, this is actually a more than adequate tool capable of delivering up to 470 rotations per minute thanks to the high motor efficiency of over 80%. All in all, this quiet and reliable brushless gearless hub motor will allow the user to effortlessly reach the speed of up to 48 kilometres per hour.

Speaking of the "gearless" part of its structure and going back to the previously mentioned philosophy of only supplying the customer with absolute necessities, we would be remiss not to mention that the drive system doesn't incorporate any moving chains or gears. This kind of approach, in turn, doesn't create needless friction, proving to be more efficient with a less chance to break. The brake system shuts the motor off automatically, thus saving energy and improving the safety aspect. The aforementioned system consists of two brake pullers and handlebar grips that will allow you to better control the entire process.

The thumb throttle provides all of the standard advantages that this type of throttle entails, including the compact structure and an additional safety element, but also comes with 3 LED indicator lights that will allow the user to monitor the power of their lithium battery. In conclusion, the ReaseJoy E-EBE-19-002-0001 will easily prove to be the best electric bike kit for those customers that want a quiet and reliable biking assistant and do not wish to overpay for an array of questionable features that do nothing but drain a hole in their pockets.

Do It Yourself

For the most part, this electric bike kit from PetrolScooter doesn't differ that much from most of its competition. It has its pros and cons. But, overall, this is just a solid kit that offers a good way to turn your bicycle into an electric bike.

First things first, this is a front-wheel type of kit. So, as per usual, what you get from it is a full-scale front wheel with a built-in electric motor and a battery bag that you attach to your bike's frame.

Personally, we like the front-wheel types because they are far easier to install. As a rule of thumb, it takes somewhere between 30 minutes and an hour to convert your bicycle into an E-bike. This is especially the case with the model in question. Every par that's necessary for installation is supplied with the product. The connectors are clearly marked and easy to figure out. The wires kit takes the page out of PC's cable management book: everything is in its place and neatly put together.

Sure, it's still not the cakewalk that it could be. There are still a lot of variables to this equation. But the manufacturers also supply the conversion kit with a really comprehensive instruction manual. It includes lots of pictures and a problem solver, so we're positive it will help you convert your bike on your own in no time at all.

It's All in the Motor

At the end of the day, an electric bike kit is only as good as its motor. And, for an otherwise basic model, the motor here is fantastic. It may not look the part but the motor in question makes your bike capable of reaching almost 50 kilometres per hour (over 30 miles). On top of that, it packs real torque, the torque that's necessary for those nasty hills that you just couldn't conquer with an underwhelming motor.

Having said that, again, this is more or less a budget model, so the company behind it had to sacrifice a thing or two to reduce its price. Not necessarily a sacrifice but it doesn't include some sort of an LCD control panel or a display with different values and stats like the time you've spent on the road, your current speed, mileage, outer temperature, and another thing or two. It does include a battery power indicator but the indicator doesn't have an anti-glare protector, so it will be difficult to make out the status of the lithium battery under the sun.

Other than that, the PetrolScooter 48v 500w electric bike kit is a really attractive option for its price. It works with all standard bikes with 26-inch wheels. Just about anyone will be able to install it in no time at all without breaking much of a sweat. The motor is surprisingly powerful.

A Wholesome Solution

Even after reading up on the subject, there's still a good chance you might feel like an electric assist bike kit is a complicated set of tools and have a hard time making up your mind about what exactly is it that you ought to pay attention to. If that is indeed the case, it wouldn't hurt to consider a product that doesn't stand out in a single area and instead delivers a full package that will allow you to experience virtually everything that an electric kit for bikes has to offer.

The Theebikemotor 36V500W is a great example of this kind of approach. What we have here is an entry-level model that, instead of sacrificing most aspects for either speed, power, control, or convenience, delivers a little bit of everything in order to make sure that a person new to the world of electric bikes will be able to seamlessly get into it and figure out what the whole thing is actually about. The 36V 500W brushless gearless hub motor delivers up to 300 rotations per minute, allowing the user to reach the speed of 28 kilometres per hour even with a 26-inch wheel. While that isn't necessarily the fastest option on the market, it should prove to be more than enough for a newcomer, especially given the 25 km/h restriction set by the electric bicycle laws.

A Kit for Newcomers

When it comes to actually riding your bike using this electric bicycle kit, the entire process could not be easier. The Pedal Assistance System will allow the user to enjoy cycling while riding this electric bike, which is an underrated feature for beginners that aren't used to a throttle mode. On top of that, the kit utilises a Sine-Wave controller, a technology that doesn't just guarantee a smoother riding experience but is also more stable, better in terms of efficiency, incorporates lower current consumption, and ensures a longer lifespan for your kit. And, as if all of this isn't enough, the model also offers a cruise control function and a regenerative braking function, which is far safer and considerably more efficient compared to a regular brake system.

The last but by no means the least element we would like to discuss before wrapping this whole thing up is a highly functional Liquid-Crystal Display. The latter will be able to display battery power level, time, speed, mileage, and one of the 6 or 7 gears for the rear wheel. The kit also includes an integrated USB charging port, meaning you will have the option of charging your phone while you ride. An LED-lit On/Off Button will display the status of your vehicle and a locking key should help in terms of keeping your anxiety levels at a bare minimum. So, if you are new to the world of electric bike kits but would like to figure out what the whole thing is about, the Theebikemotor 36V500W should be right up your alley. The model is a full package that doesn't sacrifice any of the important aspects and comes at a rather affordable price.

What Is an Electric Bike Kit?

Without any doubt, a bicycle is one of the greatest means of transport ever invented. Being absolutely eco-friendly, portable, and cost-effective, this ingenious vehicle also helps us be in good shape! It is a common knowledge that pedalling is a very effective type of work out for both burning calories and flexing all your muscles. However, riding long distances is not that easy as the speed a bike can gather is not on par with that of a motor vehicle and you may get tired after covering a few miles. Luckily, you can turn your conventional bike into a high-tech electric two-wheeler. The only thing you need is an electric bike kit! Buying such a kit is way cheaper than purchasing an entire e-bike especially considering the fact that you can install the electric motor kit on your bike by your own. With the kit, you can enjoy riding your bike and choose between pedalling and using your electro-drive, while breathing fresh air, watching a beautiful scenery you drive by and keeping fit!

If you are looking for a new road bike, you can find one in our review. To maintain the correct tyre pressure, get a quality bike pump.

What Features to Compare

Type

So, you have made up your mind to upgrade your bicycle, converting it into an e-bike. Before selecting the most suitable kit, we recommend figuring the kit type you need. In a general way, there are four types of electric bike kits:

  • Front wheel kits comprise a full-scale front wheel with a built-in electric motor and a battery bag that can be attached to a bike frame. The advantage of this kit is a quick installation: several minutes and you're ready to ride. On the downside, the front wheel will be of a different width compared to the one of the rear wheel.
  • Rear wheel kits. As the name suggests, the motor is built into the rear wheel, which helps reduce the load on the bike frame. However, if you mount the battery on the rear rack, the load on the rear part of the bike frame will significantly increase.
  • Mid-drive kits. In this case, the motor located near the chainset powers the gears. The good thing is you don't have to replace any wheels to install the kit. The only drawback is that the motor is close to the ground, therefore to avoid its damage, a gentle riding on a smooth road is highly recommended.
  • Friction drive models. With these models either front or rear wheel of the bike is driven by a motor-powered shaft installed. These kits have a compact design, on the other hand, they are rather loud in operation and cause quicker tire wear.

Compatibility

Next, check if the electric bike kit is compatible with your bicycle. Please, consider the wheel size and brake system. You should also take the motor's efficiency into account. If you want your vehicle to go fast, it is recommended to choose the kit with higher voltage and wattage. Besides, the manufacturers usually specify the maximum speed the kit can provide. However, it depends on a number of factors, such as bike weight, tyre width, roadway surface, etc. Check whether the kit includes a battery carrying bag (batteries are usually sold separately) that you will mount the way you like. A battery power indicator will inform you when it is time to recharge the battery.

Package

Selecting a bike conversion kit, don't forget to check its package. If you wish to avoid extra purchases, opt for the kit that comes with all the necessary items. Some manufacturers even provide a bike rack to mount a battery bag on. However, most kits come without a battery, hence you need to buy it separately. Finally, consider the kit's weight as the more weighty your two-wheeler becomes, the more difficult working the pedals will be.

Safety Tips

Bicycles are quite a lot of fun and the only real downside that they have (somewhat low maximum speed) can be fixed with the help of an electric bike kit. These kits aren't only able to amplify the speed of your bike but also offer an array of unique and interesting features that you won't be able to find anywhere else. However, with an increase in speed, there's also an increase in the potential amount of danger you're subjecting yourself to every time you hop on one of these e-bikes. That is why we have compiled a short list of safety tips and precautions that you should follow in order to ensure the safety of your rides.

Wear a Helmet

This is the most obvious tip and the one that is entirely synonymous with the most important safety precaution for regular bikes as well. We get it, you look much cooler without a helmet and you might feel like you're never going to fall off your bike or crush into somebody given that you're an exceptionally skilled rider. But even if that is the case, it isn't just about you. You will likely cross thousands of people on the road every single day and it takes only one of them to screw up and make even the tiniest of mistakes for you to become a victim of a road crash. While you probably don't want to imagine your head having an intimate meeting with some car's windshield or rolling through some asphalt, you can never be sure about what sort of dangers you might face on the road or what exactly awaits you at the next turn, so consider wearing something other than a baseball cap or a beanie next time you hop on your electric bike. If you aren't sure what kind of helmet to choose, we can recommend a full face model with a face shield that flips up. The benefits of this type of helmet include but aren't limited to all around protection, sun protection, not to mention keeping your ears warm in the winter.

Use Your Lights

The majority of biking-related accidents tend to happen during the night. So, when the sun goes down, the only effective way of protecting yourself in your arsenal is to put some lights on your bike. Generally speaking, the more the better. Those tiny reflectors that originally came with your bicycle will not suffice. Instead of putting your life into the proverbial hands of some cheap piece of plastic, what you should do is put at least one blinking front (white) and rear (red) LED light on your electric bike. Heck, you can even put more than one on each side. If you're feeling creative, you may even consider placing an additional source of light on your helmet. Literally, anything that will make you visible at night will greatly decrease your chances of being hit by a car.

Use Warning Devices

Don't think twice and install both a bell and a horn on your bike. The first one is for pedestrians while the latter is invaluable in terms of warning the cars of your presence. Make sure not to confuse them, of course, since people don't generally enjoy getting blasted by an air horn. Yes, an air horn. Don't even think for a second about settling for a less effective gadget and leave that rubber trumpet for children riding around their neighbourhood.

Keep Your Tyres Properly Inflated

Another seemingly obvious advice that both regular bikers and the electric one's enthusiasts should get behind. Aside from the fact that this practice helps you improve the range of your electric bike, it will also make sure you have more control over the process in case a need to react quickly in order to avoid colliding with another driver arises.

FAQ:

Q: What is an electric bicycle throttle and which type is the best?
A: To put it in simple terms, an e-bike’s throttle is basically one of the more essential parts that connect you and your bike. Putting certain unorthodox solutions aside, we will be able to identify 3 types of throttles: thumb throttles, full twist throttles, and half twist throttles. The first one is the most popular type and, as you would imagine, it is designed to be operated by a thumb. This throttle consists of a single tiny lever that sticks out from the handlebar towards the rider. The biggest advantage of this type is that it is the least noticeable and intrusive ones among the three major kinds of throttles. It rarely interferes with brake levers or twist shifters and it takes up much less space compared to any other type of throttle out there, meaning you will more opportunities to place a light or a mirror.

The full twist throttles are completely opposite compared to the thumb ones in that this is the largest kind of electric bike throttles and the only one that requires an entire hand in order to operate it properly. Anyone that has any experience riding a motorcycle should be able to easily get the hang of this type of throttle. Plenty of electric bike enthusiasts choose full twist throttles mostly thanks to the fact that they are operated by an entire hand, with 5 fingers on the grip. This approach allows the user to have a much harder grip and far more control over the riding process by using an entire wrist instead of a thumb in order to apply that twisting motion.

The last popular type of throttles is a half twist throttle. The tool in question is essentially like a little brother to the full twist one, with the only real dissimilarity separating the two being that half twist throttles don’t reach all the way to the end of the handlebar and, instead, only reach about halfway. This type provides you with the opportunity to utilise multiple fingers, generally the first two and the thumb, and you will also have the option of using an entire wrist to deliver that twisting motion, not dissimilar to the full twist types.

Q: Should I go for the throttle mode or the pedal assistance one?
A: It really comes down to personal choice. The throttle mode operates in a way not dissimilar to how a motorcycle or scooter works. What we mean by that is all you have to do is press the throttle and your e-bike will start moving on its own, without the need to pedal your way through the road. The Pedal Assistance Mode, on the other hand, only provides power when you are pedalling, making it a great choice for those people that appreciate the exercise aspect of biking above anything else and a questionable choice for those individuals that want to simply relax and get to their point of destination without putting in too much effort.

Q: Where can I ride an electric bike?
A: There isn't necessarily that much of a difference between an electric bike and a regular one, so you should treat these vehicles the same way you would your a standard bicycle. Riding around the neighbourhood for fun, commuting to work, or using it as the main source of transportation anywhere else, there's virtually no limit as to where you can go using one of these e-bikes.

Q: Do I need a license to ride an electric bike on the road?
A: No, despite the fact that the most advanced electric bikes out there will allow you to reach the speed of up to 60 kilometres per hour, you don't need any kind of license to ride an e-bike anywhere you want.
