PROS

The airer comes packaged with mounting brackets instead of the usual screws. Thanks to these brackets, the model is able to support a much heavier load. What's more, you can easily take them off and install this wooden drying rack somewhere else.

CONS

The string is a little flimsy.

OUR VERDICT

This wall-mounted clothes airer from Julu Doris is a little less practical than every other model on this list in some ways and a lot more practical in other ways. For our taste, it looks a lot better. Most importantly, it will save you a lot of space.

OUR VERDICT

Artweger 332 RuckZuck 80 isn't a flawless product but, in more respect than one, this wall-mounted clothes airer makes a much more appealing case than its peers. The unfolding mechanism is easy to open, the construction is solid and reliable, and the overall package is nice too.

PROS

The rails remain clean and concealed when pushed in, so you shouldn't have any issues trying to work/manoeuvre the dryer around your furniture. When you fold them, the arms cover the rails, leaving a neat and tidy box on the wall.

CONS

The light arms are easily soiled.

OUR VERDICT

Leifheit Telegant will prove a fitting choice for people looking for an extra dryer. It will work wonders for people who live alone or without any children. However, we wouldn't recommend it to larger families as the main clothes airer because it just doesn't have enough drying space.

A Wooden Alternative

Julu Doris here presents a huge indoor drying rack that you can (and should) mount onto the wall. Its biggest advantages are, without a doubt, the way it looks and the model's size.

Starting with the former, what we have here is a wooden clothes airer, a little different compared to your average plastic/steel model. Made from pine wood, it has a much nicer appearance than that of a plastic airer. Its size is a little tricky.

On paper, the model isn't necessarily the largest hanging clothes airer, though it is definitely up there. More importantly, it comes packaged with mounting brackets instead of the usual screws. Thanks to these brackets, the airer is able to support a much heavier load. What's more, you can easily take them off and install the model somewhere else, adding mobility points to the overall score.

Where we will have to retract the points, however, is in the string department. It's not bad, just really flimsy, so you'll have to change it on a semi-frequent basis.

On the bright side, the model is fully adjustable to 90 degrees. It has the right height drop for longer items and back rods perfect for smaller clothing items.

Simply put, this wall-mounted clothes airer from Julu Doris is a little less practical than every other model on this list in some ways and a lot more practical in other ways. For our taste, it looks a lot better. Most importantly, it will save you a lot of space.

Install It Anywhere

The model from Foxydry is very simple, tall, and wide and that's exactly where its biggest selling points lie. The whole thing measures 108 x 137 x 52 centimetres in overall dimensions, with the first two numbers representing its width and height. You will have a lot of space to dry many different clothing items, which is never a bad thing as far as clothes airers are concerned.

The model comes equipped with a nice little chain clutch that minimises the effort required to hoist the laundry up high. You can stop it at any intermediate height, making the model suitable enough for any wall and any individual height.

On paper, its drying capacity isn't necessarily that great but, again, the 8 bars that the airer comes fitted with are really wide, offering ample space for a solid number of clothes.

You can install it indoors (above the bathtub, in the laundry room, or in just about any spare room) and outdoors (on the balcony, porch, or veranda).

Just about the only issue we have with the model is that the paint job is passable at best, so it might start chipping off after a year or two.

Having said that, what we have here is still a great clothes airer. Again, the model is very tall, simple, efficient, and overall practical. Plus, you can put it just about anywhere you want.

Compact or Spacious Wheen Need Be

Brabantia WallFix is very compact. When folded, the model adds up to just 16 x 107 x 15 centimetres in overall dimensions. However, when unfolded, it goes from that to 182 x 109 x 184 centimetres. This way, it is able to provide you with 24 metres of maximum drying capacity. The retractable line will be able to take a full washing machine load, including the largest laundry items.

Its wall-mounted, fold-away design is equally suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Unlike many similar retractable washing lines, the model works perfectly fine with patios, gardens, balconies, and/or utility rooms.

With an easy-to-pull unfolding mechanism, all it takes is a single movement and you have 24 metres taut clothes lines at your disposal.

The overall construction is about as solid as they come. The materials (a combination of steel and aluminium) here are rust- and corrosion-resistant and overall sturdy and durable. The only problem we have with it is that the model is difficult to put together on your own, so you'll probably require a second pair of hands to help you.

However, we don't have any problems with the protective cover that comes with the package, perfectly capable of shielding the lines and the frame from moisture and dust.

To put it a little differently, in many aspects, Brabantia WallFix is the ultimate clothes airer. It is compact when you need it to be and spacious when necessary. First and foremost, it is perfect for larger families with limited available space and the need to sort out, hang, and dry their laundry.

The Weight is not an Issue

Artweger 332 RuckZuck 80 (what a wonderful name) is a pretty good wall-mounted clothes airer for a few different reasons. For one thing, it comes supplied with all the mounting hardware necessary to install it onto a wall. And, for the most part, the fixings here are high-quality. For example, the rivets are robust and reliable and you won't have to re-tighten them every now and then.

That being said, the mountings screws aren't as great. We wouldn't call them bad, rather relatively small and would recommend replacing them with wider screws.

As far as the drying capacity is concerned, the model isn't the most impressive prospect on the market right now but, again, it is by no means bad either. With 9 rods, each 75 centimetres long, it gives you 6.75 metres of drying space in total. More often than not, that will prove enough for your average family.

The steel frame is about as strong and dependable as they come and so are the aforementioned aluminium rods. Each one of them is capable of holding up to 2.5 kilograms, meaning that the whole thing can support up to 20 kilograms.

To sum it up, Artweger 332 RuckZuck 80 isn't a flawless product but, in more respect than one, this wall-mounted clothes airer makes a much more appealing case than its peers. The unfolding mechanism is easy to open, the construction is solid and reliable, and the overall package is nice too.

Neat, Clean, and Concealed

Leifheit Telegant is a neat little clothes airer. Right away, we wouldn't recommend it to large families looking to replace their main dryer rack. The model's great but way too small to do that. When folded, it features 72 x 10 x 5 centimetres in overall dimensions. When you unfold it, the dryer's depth goes from 5 centimetres to 37. As you'd imagine, that is really compact. But, naturally, it won't allow you to hang many different clothing items.

With 5 bars that are about 60 centimetres wide, you will have about 3 metres of drying space in total to work with. These bars/rails are nice, rustproof and easy to fold and unfold but they won't let you hang 100 different clothes at once.

However, considering the model's size, you should easily be able to find enough space for it in your utility room, kitchen, or bathroom. The rails remain clean and concealed when pushed in, so you shouldn't have any issues trying to work/manoeuvre the dryer around your furniture.

Just keep in mind that the arms are light and easily soiled, so you'll have to wipe them with a damp cloth from time to time.

Bottom line, Leifheit Telegant will prove a fitting choice for people looking for an extra dryer. It will work wonders for people who live alone or without any children. However, we wouldn't recommend it to larger families as a replacement for their main clothes airer because it just doesn't have enough drying space.

What Is a Wall Mounted Clothes Airer?

We've seen different drying racks before. They all have their advantages, there's not much to argue here. But, for our taste, there's definitely an argument you can make in favour of wall-mounted clothes airers. See, the difference between these airers and their rotary, free-standing counterparts is that you will have to free far less space in order to install an airer like that. There's nothing difficult about using these things. The mechanisms are simple and their construction is always straightforward and convenient. Plus, they often cost less and offer a similar drying capacity.

Having said all of that, there are people who just don't have enough space for an airer like that. That is why you might want to consider one of these tumble dryers. Though they are similar to washing machines, these dryers are a little different, better equipped to leave your clothes perfectly dried in a matter of minutes. These lint removers might also come in handy as they can help you take care of your clothes and keep them looking nice and spotless.
