PROS

When cutting mild steel, the model produces a square, ready-to-weld cut that features no heat, no burrs, and practically no sparks, much preferred to the usual abrasive cutting methods. The slide rail protector shields the saw against damage and prevents dust ingress. The dual quick-release clamps provide additional accuracy and faster adjustments.

CONS

The clamps are not fully swappable.

OUR VERDICT

Evolution Power Tools R255SMS+ doesn't mess around. The model is as suitable for workshops as it is for on-site use. The saw has no problems with mild steel, wood (even wood with embedded nails), aluminium, plastic, copper, and many more materials, cutting through them with laser-precision guidance.

Laser-Precision Guidance Meets Versatility

There aren't any materials that Evolution Power Tools R255SMS+ is unable to handle. The saw has no issues with mild steel, wood (even wood with embedded nails), aluminium, plastic, copper, and many more.

Needless to say, the biggest contributor here is the model's 28-tooth, 255-millimetre Japanese tungsten carbide-tipped blade as well as optimised gearbox and motor speed.

When cutting mild steel, the model produces a square, ready-to-weld cut that features no heat, no burrs, and practically no sparks, much preferred to the usual abrasive cutting methods.

The saw's 300 x 80 mm cutting capacity is no joke, perfect for cutting copper pipes, plastic pipes, cable trays, armoured cables, aluminium channels, scaffold boards, skirting board, architraves, MDF, hardwoods like oak and ash, plus much more at various cutting angles.

With reclaimed timber, the saw cuts through embedded nails, screws, or staples with effortless ease.

Other than that, the dual quick-release clamps provide additional accuracy and faster adjustments. The slide rail protector shields the saw against damage and prevents dust ingress.

Bottom line, Evolution Power Tools R255SMS+ doesn't mess around. This saw is as suitable for workshops as it is for on-site use. You'll be able to cut through any material with laser-precision guidance. All things considered, probably the best metal cutting saw on this list, especially for industrial-scale applications.

Toughest Job Site Conditions

DeWalt's power tools seldom disappoint and DeWalt DCS373N is no exception to that rule. This thing was designed to deliver on the strength/durability front first and foremost. Its steel shoe can withstand the toughest job site conditions.

At the same time, the model is pretty comfortable and practical too. The ergonomic handle with rubber overmould is firm but soft and grippy at the same time, keeping things safe and comfortable.

On the other hand, the saw's intelligent trigger allows for complete and total control over pretty much all applications. The application range is not that impressive though. Since the maximum available cutting depth is limited to 43 millimetres, you won't be able to tackle certain tasks.

On the bright side, the spindle lock allows for quick and easy blade replacement. The lock-off switch and electronic motor brake are pretty practical too, adding extra control and work safety points.

But the best part is probably the all-new transparent front guard that, paired with built-in LED light and chemically-treated glass window, offers exceptional line of cut visibility. Lastly, the cool-running 140-millimetre tungsten carbide-tipped blade delivers constant burr-free cuts.

In short, DeWalt DCS373N isn't the most versatile electric metal saw on the list but probably the most practical and accessible. The powerful tool will faithfully serve any user for years to come.

Cutting Through Anything

Makita DCS550Z is compact and lightweight but robust and powerful at the same time. The model's motor delivers 3600 revolutions per minute, so there aren't too many materials/targets the saw will have issues with. It cuts through unistrut all-thread steel, conduits, pipe, sheet metal, square tubing, and more. The saw's heavy-gauge, precision-machined base offers smooth, accurate cutting.

Another detail that allows the model to cut through different materials is the 136-millimetre tungsten carbide-tipped blade. This thing cuts clean and cold. The model's relatively large 51-millimetre cutting capacity at 90 degrees contributes to its overall performance too.

Setting these major parts aside, it is the little details that separate Makita DCS550Z from its competition. The on-tool hex wrench allows for fast and easy blade replacement. On the other side, the large view window allows for easy cutting along the cutting line, whilst the LED job light provides an easy-to-trace cutting line. The safety goggles that come with the saw are great too.

The company's battery and charger are pretty expensive to replace though, that's the biggest problem we have with the product in general.

All in all, Makita DCS550Z is safe and capable. This hand saw cuts through most targets like a knife through butter.

Keeping Things Safe

We've very few issues with Metabo CS23355. Despite the massive 355-millimetre cutting depth, the supplied tungsten carbide-tipped blade starts to chip away relatively soon. Apart from that, this saw is as capable as they come. You'll be able to quickly and effortlessly tackle steel profiles, pipes, and rods, cast iron, aluminium, and pretty much every other non-ferrous metal in the book.

There are multiple details here that make the model much more efficient than its peers within the same price bracket. The motor and gear incorporate ball bearings to withstand high loads. The spindle lock is there to make disc changes as easy as possible. The quick-release clamps offer variable mitre conversion from -15° up to 45°, so you'll be able to tackle various projects with very different tasks.

On the safety front, the swivelling cutting guard and adjustable spark guide plate keep things about as risk-free as they can be with these saws.

The saw weighs 17 kilograms, meaning it is hardly lightweight, even as far as tabletop chop saws go. At the same time, equipped with a built-in handle and locking device, the model is pretty easy to transport.

To sum it up, Metabo CS23355 doesn't just make sure to deliver on the functionality and performance fronts but also on the safety one. With this metal saw, there's very little chance even the least experienced users will be able to injure themselves.

Affordable Cutting Prowess

Ozito 2300W is the most affordable metal saw on the list. Despite the modest price tag, the model doesn't really come up short compared to its more expensive competition.

Our only gripe is with the saw's weight. Around 17 kilograms is not outrageous for tabletop chop saws but not necessarily optimal too. The soft-grip D-handle improves ergonomics and overall comfort but doesn't really help that much with transportation.

All that being said, the saw is pretty great. The powerful 2300-watt motor is able to deliver 4400 revolutions per minute, allowing the model to cut through various metal workpieces, including but not limited to angle and box sections, pipes, and solid bars.

On the other side, the quick-release vice allows for quick clamping and removal of the workpiece, whilst the 0° to 45° adjustable fence lets you cut the materials under different angles. The usual lock-off safety switch does an excellent job preventing accidental start-ups.

The disc can drift a little when cutting mitres, so we would recommend taking your time with these things.

Cutting to the chase, Ozito 2300W is a budget saw with an entry-level price tag and mid-range performance. As far as cost-effectiveness is concerned, this is the best metal cutting saw on the list.

What Is a Metal Saw?

Metal saws are usually power saws that builders use to cut through different metal materials. Depending on the metal's composition and the task at hand, different saws are able to execute different tasks with varying degrees of success.

Handheld circular saws are usually the best choice for creating straight cuts. However, keep in mind that the right blade for the project is crucial. Generally speaking, circular saws accept abrasive, metal cut-off discs. These discs are excellent for various metalworking projects.

Chop saws are different. These models are designed to withstand the heat, sparks, and flying metal that come from cutting large metal stocks. More often than not, these saws offer much more power but sacrifice manoeuvrability in return.

There are many smaller details that separate these saws. The right safety mechanisms will let you realise various metalworking projects practically risk-free. The right convenience components, on the other hand, like quick-release clamps or rubberised handles, will let you work for hours on end with very little fatigue.

These saws are usually able to handle various metals. At the same time, regular circular saws and reciprocating saws are still better for woodworking projects.
